Park Homes Warm Home Discount scheme continues to provide essential support

£150 energy payments will once again be available for eligible park home and static caravan residents

News that the Warm Home Discount scheme is being extended to automatically reach 6 million households this winter has been welcomed. But for people who live in a park home, the Park Homes Warm Home Discount Scheme will remain their route to essential £150 payments to help with their energy bills.

Last winter the number of households who received a payment from the scheme run by Charis rose to more than 7,200, up from 5,200 the previous year.

Charis Director of Client Services, Jonathan Hunt, said, “The growth in applications is symptomatic of the continued cost of living challenges faced by many park homes households, but it also reflects the growing awareness of our scheme within our target audience. The financial contributions of energy suppliers E.ON Next, Utilita, and OVO mean we should be able to support even more families and individuals this winter.”

There are an estimated 110,000 park home and static caravan addresses across England, Scotland and Wales (1). Residents are often elderly, retired and living on low incomes.

The Park Home Warm Home Discount scheme is an Ofgem regulated, multi-supplier initiative which was set up in 2015 to help alleviate fuel poverty within the previously overlooked community.

Jonathan continued, “Many people we support with £150 payments are in homes that are poorly insulated. Financial pressures can also mean they are using older, energy inefficient electrical appliances. The £150 payment can be a lifeline for these people.

“We heard from recipients last winter that the £150 payment enabled them to put the heating on more frequently, which reduced the risk of winter illnesses they’ve previously been susceptible to.”

This year’s is now open with a new, much shorter application form, making it even simpler for park home residents to apply, whether online or by phone.

Due to the limited nature of the funding, applications are assessed on a first-come, first-served basis, and once all funding is allocated, the scheme will be closed.
