Press Release – Charis launches Let’s Talk Energy Fund

£1.3 MILLION OF GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR STRUGGLING HOUSEHOLDS

Charis launches Let’s Talk Energy Fund

Charis Grants Ltd, the UK’s leading administrator of hardship grants and funds, has launched its eighth Ofgem accredited Let’s Talk Energy Fund, bringing a much needed £1.3 million back into impoverished communities which are struggling with the soaring cost of living.

Through the Let’s Talk Energy fund, households can apply for direct help with their energy bills. This includes helping to pay for monthly bills up to £150 or writing off existing electricity or gas debt. They can also apply for free, energy efficient white goods and energy advice is provided for every award. (See end of release for the application link.)

“Every energy supplier that meets Ofgem’s minimum number of customers threshold has a statutory obligation to create hardship funds that are paid back into the community to those who are most in need,” commented Charis business development director Oliver Gray. “Working with these suppliers we can ensure that the most vulnerable households in our society – those who have fallen below the bread line – can get immediate help and support.”

“We are initially working with Ovo, Utilita and So Energy, and the fund has been opened up initially for their customers to apply online to assess their eligibility for support,” continued Oliver Gray.

Charis has collaborated with energy suppliers to create a streamlined and cost-effective method of distributing these funds quickly and seamlessly. Application is made through a simple online form, and eligibility is checked automatically through Charis’ dedicated online digital platform. Once all the checks have been made, and the applicant is approved for help, the right help is provided almost immediately.

“When the heating is off, the house is cold, the fridge is not working and the cupboards are empty, any kind of wait is too long,” continued Oliver Gray. “The current economic crisis is forcing thousands more households into hardship, so this additional fund is ideally placed to alleviate some of the mounting pressure we see accumulating at this early stage in the autumn.”

Charis Grants Ltd is a privately owned company established in 2003 to facilitate the distribution of funds and grants by energy companies, charities, housing associations and other bodies, such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, which help and support vulnerable people in the community.
