Financial Controller

Location Peterborough

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Salary: £55,000 – £70,000 (depending on experience)

Reports To: Finance Director

 

Main Purpose of the Job

To oversee all accounting processes, maintaining internal controls over financial reporting and budgets to improve operational efficiency in a growing and rapidly evolving business.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • To develop finance best practice and document process flows for finance and accounting in a way that supports the needs of a dynamic, fast-growing business
  • To create a detailed monthly timetable to ensure financial information is delivered on a timely basis
  • To prepare and publish timely management accounts with comprehensive commentary, analysis and insights by working day 5
  • Team management, including providing guidance and training to ensure integrity and accuracy of financial results and reporting
  • To encourage and be part of a culture of collaborative working between the finance team and other business functions
  • To be responsible for managing cash flow and treasury forecasting and reporting, highlighting issues and concerns to the Finance Director
  • To Identify and assess potential risks and control weaknesses, and develop recommendations for improvement in a fast moving and evolving environment
  • To co-ordinate and prepare all statutory reporting and liaise with external auditors
  • To ensure compliance with financial and tax regulations and ensure robust governance
  • To co-ordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and forecasting processes

 

Knowledge, Experience and Competencies

  • Previous experience in a senior finance/accounting role
  • Recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • A minimum of 5 years post-qualified experience
  • Experience of designing robust processes and controls in a dynamic, fast-moving environment
  • Excellent commercial acumen
  • An effective communicator with excellent presentation skills and ability to communicate financial information to a non-Finance audience
  • Strong people management skills, with proven ability to motivate a team, and train finance colleagues in best practice
  • A self- motivated and proactive person who can work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent decision making, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced systems skills, including Excel and Powerpoint. Previous experience of Business Central or Power BI is an advantage.
