Main Purpose Of The Role
In the last five years, Charis has experienced a period of unprecedented and sustained growth, diversification and business change. The successful deployment of a new strategic plan, the introduction of new services and a broader range of products delivered through new technology applications has underpinned the progression of the business.
The Data Analyst provides support to the business in the management of data and data sources used for business reporting and supports the development of Power BI reporting to meet the needs of the Charis business and for use by external Charis clients. The Analyst works with the Finance Reporting Analyst and key business stakeholders to understand their requirements and creates complex reports and interactive dashboards to enable the business to understand its data and gain meaningful business insights. The Analyst understands the underlying systems data models from a variety of sources and platforms and how it relates to business activity to ensure that reports generated are efficient and produce an accurate view of the business.
Main Responsibilities
- Extract data from various sources, such as SQL databases, Excel spreadsheets, and cloud services.
- Integrate and transform data into Power BI to create meaningful datasets for analysis.
- Design and develop interactive, visually appealing Power BI reports and dashboards that present key metrics and performance indicators in conjunction with key business partners
- Develop custom visuals and implement DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to create calculated columns and measures.
- Ensure that reports and dashboards are user-friendly, actionable, and customised based on business requirements.
- Develop and maintain complex data models to ensure the integrity and accuracy of business data.
- Use Power Query to clean and transform raw data into structured datasets ready for analysis.
- Deliver actionable recommendations based on data analysis to improve business processes and performance.
- Monitor the performance of reports and dashboards, optimising them to ensure fast load times, especially with large datasets.
- Implement best practices for Power BI report design to enhance performance and user experience.
- Keep knowledge up to date with new features in Power BI and data analysis best practices.
- Suggest process improvements or innovative techniques to improve reporting and data visualisation.
Knowledge, Experience and Competencies
- Proficient in Power BI (Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service).
- Proficient in Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) for calculations and metrics.
- Experience with Power Query for data transformation and cleaning.
- Experience and understanding of relational databases and querying (SQL).
- Experience working with large datasets and optimising reports for performance.
- Familiar with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure is desirable
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Educated to degree level
- Related IT certifications desirable.
