Data Business Intelligence Analyst

Location Peterborough

Main Purpose of the job

To act as a business partner, developing and delivering a Business Intelligence (BI) capability for Charis, aligning to the priorities agreed by the Operating Board.  Have accountability as the Charis subject matter expert on business data, creating and maintaining critical Charis datasets in an accessible environment.  To identify new BI possibilities using internal and external data to drive value for Charis.

Job Title:  Data Business Intelligence Analyst

Reports To: Head of IT  

 

Main Responsibilities

  • To own the BI roadmap, ensuring that it remains relevant to the priorities of Charis by facilitating agreement from all parts of the organisation on a 6 monthly basis
  • To work with all functions to understand their data needs, partnering with them to add value to use of data and reporting
  • Identify key datasets that will be required on an ongoing basis, and work within Charis project governance to run projects which result in reliable datasets being available for reporting
  • Identify and build new ad-hoc information to deliver insights to the business. Be creative about obtaining external data to enhance internal information and provide greater context.
  • Work with IT and third parties to define and implement the best structure and architecture to store the datasets in a secure and accessible format
  • To provide training and support in a structured way which enables all colleagues to self-serve routine BI requirements
  • To pro-actively identify new BI opportunities to add value to Charis, based on knowledge of how the business works and external research and best practice from other relevant organisations
  • Provide input to projects (process and IT changes) for data capture activities to ensure accurate and complete datasets are obtained through point of entry validation wherever possible.
  • To present information in a variety of ways to suit the target audience and to ensure accurate and accessible

 

Person Specification

  • An ability to manage and structure data effectively
  • An ability to understand data flows in a process to be able to identify data management risks and controls
  • A self-starter with the creativity to generate ideas for new BI, and the ability to convert ideas into a final product
  • Proficent in PowerBI/ Power Query
  • Proficient in Excel
  • An ability to break down business requirements into key data components required
  • Understanding of the Core Charis business
  • Enthusiastic and good at problem solving and analysis
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills and attend appropriate training courses necessary for the role
